The problem

Many types of records are already eligible for sealing under Colorado law. However, they require many unnecessary barriers, including filing a court petition, paying filing fees, attending hearings, and securing legal representation.

The Colorado Clean Slate Act helps eliminate some of these unnecessary barriers by automating this process and sealing eligible records.

Why This Matters

For many households, the stigma of a record needlessly creates ongoing obstacles to long-term employment, education, safe and affordable housing, and family health and well-being. By automatically sealing eligible records, Colorado can make good on our commitment to helping families succeed, invigorate our economy, and connect businesses with an underutilized and valuable workforce.

Coloradans are united in helping our neighbors and our local businesses thrive. People of all backgrounds and affiliations support the Colorado Clean Slate Act because they believe that everyone benefits when people are in better positions to support themselves and their children.
